At Stellar Development, brand design is more than aesthetics; it’s about vision, consistency, and connection. Few embody this better than Jerrie Bührmann, Design Director at Build in Amsterdam. With a sharp eye for detail and a philosophy rooted in timeless design, Jerrie shapes Stellar Development’s brand design with true passion and a touch of magic.

Designing connection

What makes Stellar Development unique is how it brings together specialists from so many different fields, constructors, municipalities, landscape architects, and technologists, all working toward our shared vision. Jerrie and his team translated that same spirit into a brand design that embodies connection, both literally and metaphorically. The logo itself, a constellation of particles coming together, serves as a living metaphor for Stellar Development’s ecosystem: dynamic, collaborative, and infinitely scalable.

“Connections are everywhere if you know where to look.”

As Jerrie explains, that idea of connection became the very foundation of the brand design. Connections are everywhere; in the night sky, in constellations linking distant stars. In groups of animals, and how they form patterns together. For us, this interplay between parts embodies synergy, creating an effect that is far greater than the sum of its parts. That’s the essence of Stellar Development: to connect, to combine, to achieve something bigger together.

The power of principles

To keep the brand aligned with its mission, Jerrie and his team built every decision on four brand pillars: Nature, Architecture, Technology, and Functionality. If it didn’t match those values, it didn’t make the cut. For Jerrie, the ambition went beyond just design: “Our ambition was to make logistics real estate sexy, but functional. The industry is flooded with clichés. Stellar Development had to look different, feel different, and be far ahead.”

Built on reason

Creating Stellar Development’s brand design was very much like sculpting a statue. We began with a diverse set of references and inspirational pieces, exploring everything from architecture and technology to patterns in nature and the galaxy. Then, step by step, we chiseled away the noise, leaving only the pure essence of who we are. Everything visible in the brand design emerges from reason, down to the smallest detail, even our phone number. Being named after the stars, we chose a number reflecting the distance in light-years to the nearest galaxy, an homage to the vastness and ambition behind our vision.

Experience days

“Staying relevant isn’t about chasing what’s new; it’s about building everything on a strong, lasting foundation that can evolve without losing its core identity.”

The Magic of Mystery

Perhaps the greatest challenge was balancing clarity with magic. Jerrie draws inspiration from worlds like Star Wars, and J.R.R. Tolkien: familiar at first, yet suddenly disrupted by the unexpected. For Stellar Development, that meant every touchpoint had to be clear and functional, yet infused with just enough spark, that “10% magic,” to set it apart. “If the magic becomes too obvious, the brand risks losing credibility. But handled carefully, that tension defines who we are.”

Radical simplicity

What makes Stellar Development’s brand language unique is its radical simplicity. Just one brand color, referring to the stars: yellow. One typeface: Helvetica Neue, in a single weight. And a mantra Jerrie kept returning to: “super simple.” This approach leaves no room for decoration or distraction. Instead, the strength lies in clarity; the message takes center stage, not the design itself.

“I prefer the limitations we impose on ourselves because there is nowhere to hide: no decorative layers, no unnecessary elements, no distractions.”

To maintain this consistency, we built a strong design system, always think in formats, and walk everyone new to the brand through our comprehensive brand playbook. This allows us to move quickly on new projects without constantly rethinking the fundamentals. It’s a careful balance: creating a visual language that feels contemporary and forward-thinking while remaining enduring, reliable, and timeless. In the end, it’s about designing with both vision and resilience, so the brand can grow in the years to come.

Lighting the Path Ahead

Looking forward, Jerrie envisions Stellar Development as a global brand that never compromises on quality or its design-driven vision. Jerrie aims to grow it into a truly global brand while keeping the magic, the force, and the edge that make it different. Or, as Luke Skywalker says, “Your focus determines your reality”. For Jerrie, that focus is clear: design that connects, inspires, and always pushes the industry into new dimensions.
